Wheaton Traffic Box Art Project
Semi-finalists Selected
Please Tell Us Your Favorite Designs
Wheaton Arts Parade and Peijisan Art are collaborating to bring a new public art project to Wheaton, MD. The project plans to cover traffic signal boxes in prominent locations in Wheaton with graphic art designed by local artists. The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) “Public Art Across Maryland” program has funded the planning process.
4 local artists were selected as semi-finalists from among the artists who responded to the Request for Qualifications:
Caryn Chavarria
Brianna Pippens
Fernando Santiago
Steph Werning
Each semi-finalist was awarded a $500 commission to create a custom design for a traffic box. Images of their designs can be seen below.
Members of the Wheaton community are invited to select their 2 favorite designs. The community's preferences will guide the project managers in selecting the winning designs.
Please use this link to the form to submit your selections.
The 2 winning designs will be announced in February. The winning designers will receive a second commission to modify their designs to fit the specific dimensions of a traffic box and to edit their designs in response to suggestions from the community and project managers.
The deadline to respond to this survey is Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:59 PM.
